Mr. Dowd’s professional experience includes providing forensic accounting, financial consulting, economic analysis of insurance claims and business valuation services to clients in a variety of industries. He has made presentations in various forums and provided trial, deposition, and arbitration testimony.
Areas of Expertise
Mr. Dowd has significant experience in forensic accounting and commercial dispute matters involving business interruption, lost profits, product liability, intellectual property, impairment of assets, torts, contract breaches, and fraudulent and improper transactions. In these matters, Mr. Dowd has prepared damage claims and been responsible for the evaluation of damage claims prepared by opposing experts.
Mr. Dowd has assisted clients on a variety of insurance claims consulting engagements. Issues giving rise to claims have included natural disasters, flooding, fires, explosions, collapses, mechanical failures, and chemical spills. He has assisted clients in various aspects of the claim process including initial planning, establishment of documentation protocol, claim valuation, communication with the insurer’s representatives, loss submission, claim negotiation, and settlement.
Mr. Dowd has performed liability and damage analyses on numerous construction projects including various manufacturing and production facilities, power plants, commercial properties, hospitals, parking garages, schools, and development projects. Issues giving rise to these disputes include allegations of faulty design, defective construction, inadequate materials, changed work, deficient contractor bids, owner interference, and improper project planning, scheduling, and control.
Mr. Dowd is a Certified Valuation Analyst and has prepared and reviewed business valuations for a variety of purposes. Some issues giving rise to the need for his valuation services have included business acquisitions, conversion of preferred debt to equity, ESOP administration, breach of contract, fraud, and shareholder disputes.
